History

Mercedes-Benz has had a long and diverse association with motorsport over the course of its colourful history, and continues to do so today. The company has competed in sports car racing, rallying and Formula 1 amongst others.

Before merging to form the existing company in 1926, both Mercedes and Benz had already tasted success in motorsport. A DMG Mercedes 35 hp won the French Grand Prix in 1914 just before the start of World War 1, having already dominated racing for over a decade, while Karl Benz’s company built a car which competed in the first ever motor race in 1894. In addition, another Benz model – the Blitzen Benz, set land speed records on numerous occasions, gaining worldwide critical acclaim.

Throughout this site we will cover the latest innovations in Mercedes motorsport and look at used Mercedes models which have competed in the past.
