In addition to producing cars for racing for nearly a century, Mercedes in recent years has also produced the official safety car for the Formula 1 World Championship – in the form of the SLS AMG.
As of 2013 the SLS has been the official safety car for four consecutive seasons.
It was unveiled in 2009 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and is available to buy new for a cool £168,000.
As you’d expect, a Formula 1 safety car is going to have to be pretty quick off the mark, and the performance of the SLS is nothing short of superb.
It has a top speed of 197mph and can accelerate from 0 – 62mph in just 3.8 seconds.
